Happy October everyone from Hattie Harwood Massage and Beauty!

I know it brings the cold and the rain, but Autumn has become my favourite season and let’s be real; we get rain all through the year here so it’s not a huge deal. The leaves start turning shades of brown, red and orange, blankets, fluffy socks and jumpers start making more of an appearance and it just generally gets cosier.

Autumn Is the prime season for hot drinks and flavoured syrups but there are other things that I like to categorise into being solely for this season:

1. Baking pies

I don’t know why, but pies seem to be only something I attempt in the colder months! Especially apple pies and pumpkin pies.

2. Scary films

I am not a scary film person but if there is a time and a place for them it is around Halloween!

3. Twilight (obviously)

Better known this year as hoa hoa hoa season.

4. Themed nails

Any nails with colour schemes of oranges and browns or have pumpkins, maple leaves, ghosts etc are a MUST for October. Here are some nails I’ve done so far:

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is a Halloween film, despite anyone telling you it’s actually for Christmas! The only exception is if you miss the chance to watch it over Halloween you can also watch it up to but not after the 25th of December.

6. Hot Candle Massages

Massages are great all year round but from November through to March while it’s still quite cold, having your massage done with a nice warm hot candle makes it so much more relaxing!

7. Soups & stews

It almost feels wrong to be eating salads at this time of year, soups and stews are the way to go!

8. Books & reading

There are definitely books I would say give an autumnal vibe, for example: The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings series – JRR Tolkien, Agatha Christie’s Autumn Chills and A Murder is Announced (who doesn’t love a cosy murder), and I have just recently read The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore – 10/10 easy read, literally read it in 24hrs and would read again almost immediately.

9. Listening to the Artic Monkeys

I can’t explain this one.

10. Facials

This one is kind of a lie, they are perfect all year round but when it gets colder and the sun hides away, our skin needs a little extra loving. It can get drier, chapped, It is more susceptible to wrinkles and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis can worsen. It is also important during autumn and winter to still be applying SPF! Just because the sun is not as bright, doesn’t mean it’s not still affecting us!

Well, I really enjoyed sharing my list of what I consider autumnal activities at Hattie Harwood Massage and Beauty and although this was all I could think of now (as I’m writing this blog), I’m sure I missed a few out. It is definitely a list to add to but sometimes you have to experience something to realise “oh no, this is completely the wrong season for this”.

ANYWAY, If there is anything on my list you agree/disagree with or think I’ve missed feel free to let me know!

As a P.S. To celebrate Autumn at Lotus Beauty Lounge we have created a hot chocolate station so we can share the spirit with all our lovely clients! How cute is this…
